2012 Another Year Gone By!

2012 Another year gone by!
Here we all are already counting down the time until we are on the flip side of 2013.
By the way Happy New Years Eve!!!

2012 was a year of so much happening both personally and publicly, that I could go on forever in rambling about it in so many ways but I rather go about it this way... in pictures that is! Well, with a few words of the wise too. Pictures can not tell the whole story! Sorry no collages here to wrap up this past year cause that is not how I want to remember my 2012!

Book Review: Free - Motion Quilting With Angela Walters

I know many of you out there are well aware of Angela Walter's first book:

Free-Motion Quilting with Angela Walters

And yes, it is available in stores now. My question to you is have you had the chance picked it up to thumb through it lately? Well, I have! Matter of fact I was so taken with Angela's book that I picked up my own hard copy.

Book Review: Fons & Porter's Build Your Best Log Cabin

Earlier this month I was contacted by Fons & Porter's Online Media Coordinator who's name is Eric by the way and Eric asked if I would not mind reviewing over their new book Build You Best Log Cabin! After agreeing to review over Fons & Porter's book I came back with my response. Oh, you will have to take my review and opinion with a blind trust since there is no available photos to show to you. Bummer I know!

This is what I had to say .....

As a viewer of Fons & Porter's show and picking up their magazine occasionally, this book did not disappoint me in the fact that it is true to Fons & Porter's fashion of teaching, educating and sharing their knowledge with the quilting community. Even though I am not much of a traditional quilter (in the since of color choices or patterns) I can see some of the quilts being done in a modern/contemporary fashion. With that said it will be on your end to convince modern quilters that this book will work from them as well!

I also find this book appealing for all skill levels and it is nice that each quilt that is in the book is labeled with the challenge level. Not to mention that it is nice that a couple of the quilts are precut friendly too. A few things that I love were Liz Porter's tips and binding tutorials. I loved that the instructions were clear and precise. Also I do love the block charts that give the various measurements for the various block sizes. But I know what I loved most of all in this book were the antique quilts and the history that was related to them. I know I could go and ask questions and look up all the information of how the log cabin quilts came to be but I rarely make the time to do that. To me that was a nice added surprise that I found in this book. A couple more things that I loved was the way that the bobbin work was done too. Its something that I have never heard of but I glad that I know about it now. Oh, and I liked the tip for placing the bobbin cavity into a plastic bag trick in order not to loose the screw.

I know this book is more geared for traditional quilters however, for those of you who are modern quilters if do by chance see this book do pick it up and thumb through it cause if I can how these traditional styled quilts can be turned around into modern and contemporary styles. There is a good chance you will see it too. Like I tell my mom from time to time; You just have to open your eyes and mind to see it!

Oh, Christmas Tree & The Hallway is Decked Out!

Oh, Christmas Tree

All right my house has been decked out in Christmas fashion for at least a week now, and this year we placed the tree in a new spot this year. Truthfully I think that I like where it is at this year! I had to fight my husband like tooth and nails to get it there because he still believes that the tree should be in the living room.

My Guild's Service Quilt Project

Guild Service Project

Back in the late summer early fall one of the ladies in  my guild came up with a service project to make a quilt for one of the local business in town here.

Its Just That Time of Year!

Stairway reflection

When we all are in some sort of chaotic last minute of this or that. Or wow I have only been near the computer long enough just to check in on my emails and my bank account. Not to mention when I have giveaways up on my blog I really do not like posting a bunch of things so that folks will not be confused to comment on a separate post in order to be in on the running of winning said prize.
